# Footer description

The Footer description allows you to display a custom subscription message in the footer of your site. Use this text to encourage readers to subscribe and create a clear, welcoming call to action at the end of every page.

Default value:

* Footer description: Site description

### Step-by-step:

Go to the "**Design & branding**" settings in Ghost Admin and click "**Customize**".

Locate the "Footer description" option.

Enter your custom subscription message.

Click "**Save**" to apply the changes.

### Visibility rules

The Subscribe button in the footer is hidden when **Portal** is disabled, when a member is logged in, or when **Invite only** is enabled. The footer description remains visible in all cases.
