### Primary Navigation

The primary navigation appears in the site sidebar. It displays a list of links that help visitors explore your content with ease.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

* Log in to your Ghost Admin at `yoursite.com/ghost`
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Navigate to Navigation Settings**

* Go to **Settings** > **Site** > **Navigation** `yoursite.com/ghost/#/settings/navigation`
* Click the **"Customize"** button to open the editor.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Add or Edit Menu Items**

* Add links using a label and URL.
* Reorder or remove items as needed.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Save Changes**

* Click **"Save"** to apply your updated primary navigation.
  {% endstep %}
  {% endstepper %}

### Secondary Navigation

The secondary navigation is displayed in the site footer and supports multiple columns and more than 30 social links.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Access Ghost Admin**

* Log in to your Ghost Admin at `yoursite.com/ghost`
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Navigate to Navigation Settings**

* Go to **Settings** > **Site** > **Navigation** `yoursite.com/ghost/#/settings/navigation`
* Click the **"Customize"** button to open the editor.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Add or Edit Footer Items**

* Use the **Secondary** section.
* Add links using a label and URL.
* Reorder or remove items as needed.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Create Columns**

* Insert a new item with the URL set to `###`
* In the label field:
  * Use `@` to display the columns without title.
  * Or type a word like `Company` to show it as title.
* You can add any number of items after a title. The column automatically closes when the next title is added.
* The recommended number of columns is up to 2 for the best design consistency and readability.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Save Changes**

* Click **"Save"** to update the secondary navigation.
  {% endstep %}
  {% endstepper %}

Footer columns support social links. These links appear with a social icon and open in a new tab when clicked. For a full list of supported social links and setup instructions, see the [Social links](/docs/sand/basic-settings/social-links.md) article.
